Fitbit to Allow Sign-In with Google Accounts from June 6th
Google has finally announced the date for the transition of Fitbit users to Google logins, which has been anticipated for some time. On June 6th, Fitbit users will be able to log into their accounts using their Google credentials. This change was announced after Google’s acquisition of the wearable maker for $2.1 billion, and users will be able to move their Fitbit device to their Google account when the log in support arrives. During the transition, users will have the opportunity to adjust their data and manage their information from either the Fitbit app or their Google settings page.
While logging into Fitbit with Google is an option for now, users will soon have no choice. The company plans to require a Google sign-in to register a new Fitbit account and activate new sports devices and smartwatches sometime this year. And then by 2025, it will stop supporting Fitbit accounts entirely. Those looking to stick with the Fitbit brand will simply have to agree to link their device to their Google account.
The tech giant touts the integration as an easy way for users to “manage all their connected apps and connected devices.” But it knows some people are concerned about the privacy of their data, so it previously said it would not use Fitbit users’ health and wellness data for Google ads.
